Queensland Ballet has announced a free outdoor screening of its sold-out Nutcracker at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday 21 December at River Quay, South Bank. Artistic Director Li Cunxin says the screening is a great way to see The Nutcracker if you missed out on tickets.
The Australian Ballet's Chris Rodgers-Wilson has been crowned the 2013 winner of the Telstra Ballet Dancer Award (TBDA), receiving a $20,000 cash prize awarded by Principal Partner Telstra. The win marks a triumphant homecoming for the 25-year-old from Camberwell in Victoria. Chris began his professional ballet career in 2007 dancing with the Birmingham Royal Ballet, before returning home in 2011 to join The Australian Ballet.
The Mike Walsh Fellowships enable young theatre practitioners to travel overseas to further their knowledge and experience in their chosen fields of the performing arts before returning to Australia to pursue their careers. This year, the fellowships have been awarded to eight graduates hailing from the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), The Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) and the Western Australian Academy of the Performing Arts (WAAPA).
On Monday, November 25, the winner of the annual Rob Guest Endowment was announced for the first time in Sydney at the Gala Concert hosted by Bert Newtown at the Sydney Lyric. Performer Samantha–Leigh Dodemaide, currently starring in King Kong, was named the 2013 winner. Samantha is known for her appearances in Wicked, Anything Goes, The Producers, A Chorus Line and A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum.

Rowan Rossi, a 17-year-old dancer hailing from Adelaide, has been dancing since the age of three. After recently auditioning for the New Zealand School of Dance, Rowan found out that he was offered a place in the school’s 2014 contemporary stream. In an exciting coup, The Australian Ballet has secured international ballet sensation David Hallberg as a guest artist for the Sydney season of Cinderella. Hallberg will dance the role of the Prince in a select number of performances: the evenings of Tuesday 10, Thursday 12 and Saturday 14 December. Hallberg balances performing with Russia’s Bolshoi Ballet and as a principal artist at American Ballet Theatre in New York.

The first show at the Hayes Theatre Co in Sydney is an up-close and personal production of the classic musical Sweet Charity, produced by Luckiest Productions and Neil Gooding Productions. Sweet Charity will play at the Hayes Theatre Co from 7 February - 9 March 2014 and will star Verity Hunt-Ballard, who won the 2011 Helpmann Award as Best Actress in a Musical for her role as Mary Poppins.
