2019 Adelaide Cabaret FestivalCreator, choreographer and performer Larissa McGowan will soon present a world premiere work inspired by ultimate pop chameleon Cher. A fan of the artist herself, McGowan uses Cher’s iconic figure as a totem for exploring the reinvention of the universal aging female artist. In this dynamic solo show, contemporary dance takes on camp and cabaret.

Royal Academy of Dance AustraliaThe Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) has appointed Rebecca Taylor as National Director in Australia. Taylor, who is currently Head of Strategy and Projects, Performing Arts at Sydney Opera House, will take up the new post on Monday, June 17. She brings over 15 years’ experience in the performing arts, government and tertiary sectors.

Expressions Dance CompanyOne of Queensland’s leading ladies of contemporary dance, Elise May, has announced her retirement from Expressions Dance Company (EDC) after 10 years. The Australian Dance Award winner, who has starred in more than 45 EDC productions including Helpmann Award-nominated performances in Behind Closed Doors and The Red Shoes, leaves the company to take up an exciting new role as Associate Lecturer of Dance at Queensland University of Technology.

2019 Australian Dance Awards cancelledAusdance National recently announced the cancellation of the 2019 Australian Dance Awards. Shrinking government funding for Ausdance National has resulted in reduced staffing and financial reserves that has led to this decision. Meanwhile, Ausdance National affirmed it would continue its partnership with Tracks Dance Company to present the National Dance Forum in Darwin on August 9 and 10.

'Banjo' launches Australian Tour soon

Banjo Australian Tour 2019Last August, a new production entitled Banjo premiered at Glasshouse's Ross Family Studio in Australia, as choreographed by Stephanie Maddren and Darren McIntyre. Presented by Got Ya Back Productions, this mash-up of contemporary dance, Coldplay music and the spoken word of Banjo Paterson will now go on tour throughout NSW.
