AMPA Presents 'GOLD'!

AMPA Presents ‘GOLD’!

Join AMPA for GOLD, an exhilarating evening of dance featuring AMPA’s Bachelor & Associate students!

Final choreography projects crafted by their talented third-year students: Assiya Hasna, Kira Fort, Alana Teague, Sophie Jessup are presented in the first half of the show.

Each trimester, students showcase their culminating choreography projects before a live audience. The journey commences with an in-depth exploration of the concept, followed by collaborative studio sessions with a chosen group of dancers. The final phase encompasses lighting design, costume selection, sound integration, and the promotion of the production.

UNMASKED, by Assiya Hasna, is a contemporary dance piece unveiling the paradox of social conformity leading to the suppression of individuality.

65 Roses, by Sophie Jessup, is a contemporary dance piece that delves into the impact of Cystic Fibrosis on an individual’s overall health and well-being.

Phononic Resonance is a captivating contemporary dance piece by Alana Teague that delves into the physical and psychological effects that sound has on humans.

SEVEN, by Kira Fort, is a theatrical dance piece that explores the seven deadly sins and how they are embedded within humans’ nature.

In the second half of GOLD, AMPA brings a mix of styles including a captivating work by Sydney-based choreographer, Emma Bathgate–Petersen. Emma spent a week in the studio with AMPA’s dance students, crafting the contemporary piece Stampede. Stampede will be presented alongside compelling pieces from esteemed faculty members: Anton, Francesca Gozdek, Kristina Wallbank-Hutton, Andii Huynh and Alysia Jarvis.

But that’s not all! AMPA alumni, Sabrina Muszynski will grace the stage with a section from her latest work 2nd Skin. As a Scottish Highland dancer, Sabrina uses her Scottish heritage to inform her artistic exploration creating a new movement vocabulary. 2nd Skin was recently debuted in Sydney as part of ‘Double Act’, produced by Brand X. The work is a riveting fusion between visceral movement and Scottish Highland dancing. Tradition and innovation converge as two bodies intertwine.

GOLD will be at the NIDA Playhouse Theatre 3 & 4 May at 7:30 pm. Tickets begin at $40 and are on sale now. Book here.
