Abbotsford Convent and Victoria Chiu present What Happened in Shanghai? in the Magdalen Laundry from 21 – 24 February, as part of Asia TOPA 2020. Drawing on her family roots in Shanghai, choreographer Victoria Chiu interrogates how the contemporary body can illuminate different attitudes towards family – and why families make the often difficult decision to move their home across borders.

A brand new Broadway Youth Dance Company, located in Sydney’s South West, is being launched in only a few short days. They are seeking great all-round, versatile performers, with experience in Jazz Dance, Tap Dance, Heels, Singing, Acting or any combination of these skills. Initial Auditions were held in November 2019, and after a great response from talented young dancers, they were able to confirm that the 2020 Season would definitely proceed as planned. They are now holding a second round of Open Auditions on 25th January.

Double Delicious is a sumptuous storytelling and culinary experience from the creators of the critically acclaimed The Serpent’s Table (2014). Contemporary Asian Australian Performance (CAAP) brings together five storytellers to share the secrets behind the dishes that have proved significant in their lives. A smorgasbord of creative events and performances are set to tour Victoria’s regional cities and towns in 2020, including hip-hop, ballet, theatre, orchestras and children’s shows. Minister for Creative Industries Martin Foley has announced the latest round of the Andrews Labor Government’s Touring Victoria program, with nearly $600,000 helping nine grant recipients take 160 creative activities to 63 destinations across Victoria.

Early in the evening. ENCOUNTER is your invitation to the neighbourhood. ENCOUNTER, directed by Emma Saunders, was launched as part of Sydney Festival 2020. This en masse, site-specific work of joy which will run as a FREE event from 10-12 January 2020, in Prince Alfred Park, Parramatta. ENCOUNTER explores the everyday extraordinariness of being young and being in this place, from Parramatta, Western Sydney to the Bega valley, on the NSW South Coast.

Queensland dancers have the opportunity to participate in this year's open Masterclass series taught by industry professionals aimed at helping dancers to prepare for freework in examinations and also prepare those taking part in the Jacqueline Morland Awards 2020.

 REACTOR will premiere at Mona Foma, January 2020. It is an immersive, interactive dance work that allows the audience to be in the controlling seat. Dancers respond to directions given to them by participating audience members. The dancer will be ‘controlled’...or is the audience the real puppet in this experiment of human nature? 

Dance will be back in full force at Adelaide Festival 2020 with an enticing program commencing in Febuary. Established in 1973, it is Australia’s first capital city arts venue and hosts more than one million people annually. As well as presenting theatre, dance, music, and exhibitions, Adelaide Festival Centre creates diverse festivals to inspire, challenge, educate, and entertain. 

Stand by to once again feel the might and power of Jason Coleman’s highly charged and outrageously entertaining world-class new show “ALL ABOARD”. The show will run at Rosebud Memorial Hall, Rosebud VIC from Fri Jan 3 - Thu Jan 23, 2020.

Following the successful premiere of the first calisthenics theatre show AMAZING GRACE in 2018, Manilla Street Productions is bringing a new show to the National Theatre from 31st January 2020.

Nominations were announced today for the Sydney Theatre Awards for 2019, which will be presented at a gala ceremony on Monday 20 January 2020 at 7pm at the York Theatre, Seymour Centre.
