Theatre Works’ Explosives Factory Now Available for Hire
A space once used to manufacture fireworks, Explosives Factory is Theatre Works’ second venue and is just as much a part of St Kilda history as Theatre Works itself.
Located at Rear Laneway 67 Inkerman Street, St Kilda (behind the Thrifty-Link accessed via Lyell St and Market Street (both off Inkerman), Explosives Factory is a versatile workshop, studio and development space complete with accommodation, a bathroom and kitchen facilities.
This space is the home of Theatre Works’ new residency program RADAR (Regional Artist Development and Accommodation Residencies) and provides year round rehearsal space to their partnering artists. The venue will also be activated as a 60-seat versatile performance venue for their festival programming, and if needed provide a smaller and more intimate venue for works less suited to our main space.
Explosives Factory is a large, versatile space that is perfect for rehearsals and creative developments. It is also available for performances and as a teaching space. The space is available in minimum 4-hour blocks and is cheap as chips at $25 per hour.
Theatre Works is one of Australia’s longest-running independent theatres, constantly reinvigorating and reimagining the sector by providing a hotbed for artists and audience development. They aim to be the Australian epicentre of independent theatre and independent theatre makers by investing in, empowering and supporting artists of all experience, identity, background and aspiration to make ambitious works that reflect, redefine or reimagine contemporary Australia and contemporary Australian theatrical practice.
