Tracks Dance Company’s Choreolab 101 provides a yearly opportunity for emerging movement artists and makers to explore the mechanics and creative scope of choreography in an artistically rich environment. A collaborative approach is made to the facilitation of the course, this year Choreolab 101 will be facilitated by Spillett and guest facilitators: Kelly Beneforti, Jess Devereux, and David McMicken.

The 2024 Choreolab 101 Program will begin with a weekend intensive where participants are immersed in a rich and playful environment for choreographic enquiry. Followed by 10 weeks, 2 sessions per week (55 Hours total) allowing for a rich time of process-driven, movement exploration (solo and group) with diverse creative tasks and entrances into the artistic process of building ideas for choreography. The final weeks are spent creating a showing to share select processes and activities from the workshops to audiences.

The program is aimed at people with some level of experience in dance/movement (in any style) or with a current artistic practice, and a curiosity about the choreographic craft.

“It was such a positive and safe space. Tracks has got such a long history of working with different people in such enabling, positive and beautiful ways… The gentleness, the lack of judgement, but very clear direction, and solid shaping and input, was a treasure,” Nicky Fearn, past participant.

Choreolab 101 applications open 10th January 2024 and close 12th February 2024. The cost is $300 to participate in the 10-week program. Choreolab 101 will take place at Tracks Dance Studio, Darwin | Garamilla, March-May 2024 culminating with a public showing on Thursday, 16 May.
