Dancenorth Announced in WOMADelaide 2022 Lineup

WOMADelaide announced 30 incredible artists in celebration of its 30th anniversary, including Townsville’s internationally acclaimed contemporary dance company Dancenorth and iconic singer-songwriters Paul Kelly, Courtney Barnett and Baker Boy.

Returning to its spiritual home in Adelaide’s Botanic Park from 11-14 March 2022, WOMADelaide is an annual four-day festival of music, art, and dance. This year, the festival is celebrating 30 years with a birthday party like no other!

Joining the celebration, Dancenorth will perform their thunderous production NOISE, featuring 100 drummers from the South Australian percussion community on a purpose-built stage.

Dancenorth’s Artistic Director & Co-CEO Kyle Page said, “WOMADelaide is without question one of the best festivals in Australia. We are thrilled to be returning to Adelaide with NOISE and working with Adelaide’s percussion community to create an explosive and unforgettable performance.”

NOISE first premiered in August 2019 at the inaugural NAFA andis a gathering, a united force of percussive energy and powerful dance designed to pull audience members into the present moment, to wholly captivate attention and energy.

WOMADelaide Associate Director, Annette Tripodi shared in the excitement, “Dancenorth are an exceptional company and NOISE is going to deliver a spectacle unlike any other at WOMAdelaide 2022. Having the dancers teaming up with 100 local drummers for eight shows across the festival is a fitting – and rousing! – way to celebrate our 30th anniversary, and we can’t wait to present this South Australian premiere.”

Townsville City Council Community and Cultural Development committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said this announcement highlights Dancenorth’s position as an important cultural ambassador for Townsville.

“Council has worked hard to establish Townsville as the arts and culture capital of northern Australia, and helping foster and enhance Dancenorth’s exceptional national and international artistic reputation is part of our strategy. Dancenorth is Townsville’s greatest cultural export and Townsville City Council is incredibly proud to support one of Australia’s major performing arts companies,” said Greaney.
