Australasian Dance Collective presents Salamander
Two artistic visionaries Maxine Doyle and Es Devlin combine forces for an epic new work. Australasian Dance Collective is thrilled to perform Salamander as a part of the 2023 Brisbane Festival program.
A promenade dance-theatre work, Salamander sees a warehouse at Northshore, Brisbane transformed into a fully immersive, climate-fiction dream-like world through light, sound, design, and movement. Es Devlin’s labyrinthian and kinetic sculptures live within a flooded landscape which is inhabited by characters desperate to make a change before it’s too late.
Maxine Doyle – together with a dynamic ensemble of international, national and local dancers, including Australasian Dance Collective, with extraordinary Australian composer and singer Rachael Dease – will bring this world to life with visceral dance, and haunting melodies.
With lighting by Ben Hughes and costumes by Bruce McKinven, Salamander is a transformative performance experience set in an epic installation created by the legendary Es Devlin.
“It is so special for the collective to work with a creative of Maxine’s calibre and vision. She is incredibly layered in her storytelling, brilliant at excavating ideas and bringing vivid narratives to life. Her work is rich, complex and honest with rigorous attention to detail and audience connection. Maxine’s collaborator, the world renown designer Es Devlin brings another layer of brilliance to Salamander. She is a design genius who considers every aspect of the audience experience of her work – from creating collective anticipation to facilitating intimacy between the audience and performer in works of scale,” said Amy Hollingsworth, ADC Artistic Director.
Don’t miss your chance to experience a groundbreaking collaboration between international superstars and local talent in the must-see world premiere.
Tickets to Salamander are $74-$89 with a run time of approximately 95 minutes (no interval). Performances are now through 24 September at Northshore, Brisbane. Click here to book now.
