Workshop with Daniel Jaber and Natalie Allen
Leigh Warren Dance (LWD) is offering a one-day workshop on Thursday, May 29 in Adelaide with Natalie Allen and Daniel Jaber. This workshop is offered to independents, professional dancers and third-year tertiary students.
The workshop will start at 10 a.m. with a contemporary class led by Natalie Allen. At 11:45 a.m., Daniel Jaber will lead a contemporary ballet class till 1 p.m. before breaking for lunch. After the break, Allen will lead a workshop focused on performance and improvisation from 2-3:30 p.m. Then to conclude the day, Jaber will offer a session on repertoire and composition from 3:45-5:30 p.m.
This is a wonderful training opportunity for pre-professional and professional dancers. The cost is $110 for the full day (attendance to all classes and workshops) and $70 for half-day attendance (just Jaber’s class and Allen’s workshop.) To register or for more information, visit www.lwd.com.au.
Jaber, former member of Australian Dance Theatre (ADT), was recently named the incoming director of LWD, set to take over from Founder, Choreographer and Artistic Director Leigh Warren. An article in Dance Informa’s May edition features a conversation with Jaber and Warren on the transition. It states, “While Warren works on remounting his epic, eight-hour Glass Trilogy for his LWD finale in August, Jaber will slowly take over the day-to-day running of the company and, more significantly, its redirection.” So dancers participating in this May workshop will have the major opportunity to work with the company’s new director.
On the other hand, Allen will also be a major asset to dancers. She has performed with LWD, ADT and Sydney Dance Company. She is the 2012 Greenroom Award Winner for her performance in Sydney Dance Company’s 2 One Another by choreographer Rafael Bonachela. She will premiere her first work with Link Dance Company in Perth on May 21.
