Join The Artists Lab for a 3 day ADVANCED dance intensive at the brilliant 3 Danks Studios!- 27, 28 & 29 October, 2023.


After the success of The Ultimate Broadway and West End Experience, The Artists Lab is so excited to announce their ADVANCED Discipline series. Not only will you gain a deep understanding and invaluable knowledge of the DANCE technique in five of the most important forms for Theatre, you will also learn and understand what it is truly sought-after during show auditions in an audition/casting room with choreographer & director Simone Sault. The Artists Lab is proud to announce they will be gifting each participant with high-res footage of their work for their showreels as well as inviting Agents & industry professionals to the final showcase!

The 2023 Stellar Teaching Cast includes: Kelley Abbey, Simone Sault, and Thomas Egan.

Kelley Abbey is one of Australia’s most accomplished artists. She is a renowned director, choreographer, and performer with an impressive international career encompassing television, film, stage, concert tours, and awards specials. She has worked both nationally and internationally, winning awards such as the Green Room, Mo, Variety Heart, Broadway World, Helpmann Awards and has also earned a Hollywood Choreography Media Honours. 

From principal performer and choreographer in the Oscar winning box office smash Happy Feet, to performing the lead role in Sweet Charity on stage, starring in and directing and choreographing Fame the Musical and choreographing pop artists, movie stars and casts of thousands… Kelley Abbey understands dance and movement like no other.

Simone Sault grew up in Melbourne, first training in classical ballet at the National Theatre Ballet School, before beginning her professional stage career with the Australian Opera Ballet at the age of 18.

In 1999 Simone was asked to join Graeme Murphy’s prestigious Sydney Dance Company, dancing many principal roles during her six-year tenure, including a 2004 season of the critically acclaimed Ellipse in New York.  She has performed in many professional musical productions, including, Phantom of the Opera (Australia), Chicago (Australia and London), Les Liaisons Dangereuses (London), Sinatra (London Palladium), and ENO productions of On The Town (London and Paris.) Simone has completed several films – most notably Beauty and the Beast, Sweeney Todd and Alice in Wonderland with Oscar nominated director Tim Burton.  ​​

Thomas is a Creative and Performer on the show The Tap Pack. The Pack is about to perform on the West End in London and in Berlin. They have also been nominated for two Green Room Awards for Excellence in Choreography and Best Musical, an Australian Dance Award and had sold out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Adelaide Cabaret Festival and, Sydney and Melbourne seasons. ​

Thomas worked as a commercial dancer in Sydney for many years having danced for Kylie Minogue, Delta Goodrem, Timomatic, Jessica Mauboy, X-Factor, Australia’s Got Talent, So You Think You Can Dance and Channel V. Thomas appeared Baz Luhrmann’s film The Great Gatsby as a featured dancer. That year he landed his first tour with Tap Dogs, in which he still tours with on occasions. He also performed in the Production Company’s season of Singin’ In The Rain and Fame The Musical choreographed by Kelley Abbey. 

Thomas trained with his mother Sharon Lawrence, and Barbara Lynch while spending his high school years in an Arts School (VCASS). He grew up in the theatres of Melbourne working at 10 years old as young Peter Allen in The Boy From Oz, Singin’ In The Rain, Oliver and Gypsy. Thomas sought further training from Robert Sturrock and trained in Los Angeles for Hip Hop and Tap.

During this 3 day Advanced Series, you will enjoy daily classes in Dance Technique & Choreography; specialist technical training in Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Theatre and Musical Theatre; specialist Dance/ Movement Technique to be conducted with industry renowned professionals; Q and A with the Industry’s finest; and learn how to give yourself the best chance by knowing how to present yourself.

By the end of this course you will have: developed skills and a deep understanding of the Dance industry; mastered your development as an artist through this training with new self- confidence and assurance; understood and harnessed your strengths AND weaknesses as a dancer; explored artistically and creatively YOUR unique talents; had the rare opportunity to have worked and performed for international creatives; and walk away with high resolution footage of your dancing to add to your show reel.

Dance Advanced will take place 27-29 October, 2023 at 3 Danks Studio. Cost to participate is $550 + services fees & charges. Classes will be from 8:30 am -3 pm on 27 October, 3 pm – 9 pm on 28 October, and 1:30 pm – 8:30 pm on 29 October. ​

In order to participate, you are required to have been dancing for at least 3 years. There is no age limit, however The Artists Lab recommends only advanced dancers apply. You are required to bring Tap Shoes, Jazz Shoes, Chorus Heels, and appropriate dance wear.
