Sydney Dance Company presents ‘Untamed’

Untamed featuring Rafael Bonachela and Gabrielle Nankivell choreographyIn mid-October, a second Sydney Dance Company (SDC) program arrives for the 2016 season, with Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela set to share the bill with one of the country’s most promising choreographers, Adelaide-based Gabrielle Nankivell, winner of the 2015 Tanja Leidtke Fellowship.

For his second world premiere of the year, Bonachela will take inspiration from a vibrant contemporary classical composition by Bulgarian Grammy nominee Dobrinka Tabakova – her Concerto For Cello and Strings. This will provide a perfect counterpoint to Nankivell’s acclaimed Wildebeest, an evocative work based on the idea that underneath it all we are all animals and fanciful creatures,” according to Daily Review.

Originally commissioned as part of SDC and Carriageworks’ New Breed 2014 program, and presented as part of a short sell-out season in December of that year, Wildebeest will be re-worked for its debut on the Roslyn Packer Theatre stage. It features a score from Luke Smiles.

The 11-show season of Untamed will open at Sydney’s Roslyn Packer Theatre in Walsh Bay on October 18. For further information, visit www.sydneydancecompany.com.
