Register for Australian Ballet Summer School
The Australian Ballet School’s 16th Annual Summer School offers five consecutive days of comprehensive training in classical ballet and other dance styles, in a variety of programmes for national and international students at The Primrose Potter Australian Ballet Centre in Melbourne.
Classes are conducted by staff of the School and guest teachers from The Australian Ballet and the dance community. The four different programmes have been developed to cater to the needs of students aged 6-18 years. A Parents’ Programme is also offered, consisting of beginner ballet and cardio classes, available to parents and adult relatives of Summer School participants.
The first student option is the Open Programme for male and female dancers aged 8-18 years. Classes are taught by a variety of celebrated classical ballet teachers, supported by specialised allied dance training. Class grouping and schedules are allocated according to age, starting daily at 9:15 or 9:30 a.m. and running to 3:30 p.m. All age groups may also participate in activities and/or workshops during lunch breaks.
The second student option is the Pre-Professional Programme for advanced male and female dancers aged 14-17 years. This option offers a comprehensive training timetable, including specialised workshops designed to stimulate and inspire the serious dance student pursing vocational dance training. It begins at 9:15 a.m. every day and runs to 3:30 or 4:30 p.m.
The third student option is specifically for male dancers – the Boys Programme (offered Week One only.) This offers male students aged 10-13 years old classical and coaching classes taught by celebrated male classical ballet teachers, supported by specialised allied dance training and lunch break activities. It starts daily at 9:15 or 9:30 a.m. and runs to 3:30 p.m.
Lastly, the fourth student option is for younger dancers at 6 or 7 years old. The Creative Programme is held during Week Two only.
Summer School Week One is set for Saturday, January 3 to Wednesday, January 7. Week Two is scheduled for Thursday, January 8 to Monday, January 12.
