Queensland Ballet holds full time auditions
Queensland Ballet, located in the inner-city suburb of West End in southern Brisbane, will be holding multiple auditions beginning in late August for entry to its two full time dance courses, the Pre-Professional Program and the Senior Program.
Queensland Ballet’s first option for a full time dance course is the Pre-Professional Program. It is a one-year training program that aims to give students the preparation they require before joining the environment of a professional ballet company.
Under the supervision of Artistic Director Li Cunxin, Pre-Professional Program students are given the opportunity to work in an elite atmosphere dedicated to developing their skills to the highest artistic and technical standards. Classes include: classical ballet, pointe work, pas de deux, male technique, repertoire, contemporary dance, drama/mime and body conditioning/Pilates. Students are given the opportunity to perform in company productions and at other Queensland Ballet events.
Queensland Ballet’s second full time dance course is new! The Senior Program will launch in 2015 and seek to give talented students the opportunity to pursue intensive ballet training while completing face-to-face senior academic studies in Years 11 and 12. Delivered in partnership with Education Queensland, it sits between Queensland Ballet’s Junior and Pre-Professional Programs. It replaces the previous course offered through the Queensland Dance School of Excellence (QDSE).
The inaugural Senior Program students will be considered full time students of Kelvin Grove State College. Therefore, students are eligible to receive the Queensland Certificate of Education and an Overall Position (tertiary entrance ranking) at the completion of Year 12.
Auditions for the Queensland Ballet Pre-Professional Program will be in: Brisbane on Sunday, August 24; Sydney on Saturday, September 6; and Melbourne on Sunday, September 7.
Auditions for the Queensland Ballet Senior Program will be in: Brisbane (for Year 11 & 12) on Sunday, August 24; Brisbane (for Year 10) on Sunday, August 31; Sydney (for Year 10, 11 & 12) on Saturday, September 6; and Melbourne (for Year 10, 11 & 12) on Sunday, September 7.
