NZSD hosts auditions for 2017 full time intake
As one of the Southern Hemisphere’s leading dance training institutions, the New Zealand School of Dance (NZSD) offers two full-time courses – the Certificate in Dance Performance and the Diploma in Dance Performance. For 2017 intake to these courses, auditions will soon be held in the following locations: Wellington (September 24); Melbourne (September 28); Adelaide (September 29); Brisbane (October 1); and Sydney (October 2).
NZSD has an international reputation and is known for producing versatile and employable dancers. Students train under faculty members like Director Garry Trinder, Paula Steeds-Huston, Christine Gunn, Qi Huan, Victoria Colombus, Nadine Tyson, Jarek Cemerek and Turid Revfeim. International guest teachers also visit throughout the year. In addition, specialists in anatomy, dance history, nutrition, yoga and performance psychology round out the training.
Students major in either classical ballet or contemporary dance but still have to maintain a strong base in both disciplines. The programme for classical majors consists of classical ballet technique, contemporary dance technique, pas de deux, repertoire, pointe, virtuosic coaching and stretch. The programme for contemporary majors consists of contemporary dance technique, classical ballet technique, partnering, improvisation, repertoire, yoga and choreography. In the third year, students have opportunities for secondments and professional placements.
