New ‘SKATE’ project casting performers
This Friday, June 23, applications close for the brand-new SKATE project. A casting call out for performers, skateboarders and musicians describes SKATE as a new work that will be workshopped and then presented in Melbourne in October 2017.
Dubbed “pure theatre spectacle”, SKATE promises to be a “unique, contemporary, fast-paced, physical performance.” It will combine the art of skateboarding with music, movement, percussion and tracking projection.
The producers are looking for a diverse range of performers, including dancers. They want dynamic, versatile and highly physical dancers/performers with very strong floor technique, tumbling, partner work and skateboarding skills.
“We are particularly interested in people with skills in parkour, breakdancing, contemporary dance and acrobatics,” said the Big hART announcement. “Performers with a background in circus or gymnastics should also apply.”
Auditions will take place throughout late June and July. Then development and workshop rehearsals will run from August to October, with the workshop showing scheduled for the week of October 23.
To apply, send your headshot, detailed CV, link to show reel and contact information (your residing address, email address and phone number) to SKATE Associate Producer Amy Morcom at email@example.com. Applicants should also submit a video showcasing their skateboarding skills. Producers want to see you demonstrate that you can balance on a moving skateboard.
