National College of Dance’s Full Time Courses
The National College of Dance, situated in Lambton, Newcastle, provides nationally accredited training to students wishing to pursue a career in the dance industry. Auditions for entry to the school’s Full Time Dance Courses are scheduled for September 14-15 at the 2013 Australian Dance Festival in Sydney and September 20 at the NCD studio. Full Time Courses include a Certificate IV in Dance and a Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance).
The National College of Dance offers training at elite levels to those students whose passion and facility for dance is such that they aim to become professional dancers. Staff members, lead by Artistic Director Brett Morgan, include professional dancers and experienced teachers of dance. They have a wide range of contacts in the professional world both internationally and in Australia, and have an intention to provide clear pathways to a career in the dance profession.
The school offers units in classical, contemporary and jazz dance as well as choreography, partnering, acting, music and musical theatre. Classes are also offered in body conditioning (including anatomy and nutrition) and career planning.
Full Time Dance Courses meet Monday to Friday eight hours per day, adding up to 40 hours per week. Teachers that mentor and instruct dancers include: Artistic Director Brett Morgan, the former Dance Director of Sydney Dance Company; Associate Artistic Director Elise Frawley, a RAD Examiner and accredited Pilates instructor; choreographer Alfred Taahi, a former Principal Dancer; choreographer Timothy Gordon, also a former Principal Dancer; teacher Debbie Ellis-Linnert, seen on So You Think You Can Dance; teacher Zoe Jones, a dancer specializing in jazz and contemporary; pianist and musical theatre teacher Jenny Pickering; and anatomy and nutrition theory teacher Hannah Coleman.
Entry into the National College of Dance is by audition only. Auditions held at the 2013 Australian Dance Festival will be on September 14 and 15. Another audition will be offered at the NCD studio on Friday, September 20. Further opportunities to audition may be granted upon request to the Artistic Director. DVD auditions are accepted at the discretion of the Artistic Director. Applicants must have reached the standard of RAD Advanced I (or its equivalent) to be eligible for the courses.
