Melbourne City Ballet announces partnership
Melbourne City Ballet recently announced a new joint collaboration with Coburg High School. The two organisations are joining forces to create the Melbourne Institute of Classical Arts (MICA), which will commence in January 2017.
MICA seeks to “provide new opportunities for young elite upcoming ballet artists to access both high quality education and classical training.” Participating students will be encouraged to complete their secondary education while training to become a professional artist. Only a privileged few will be selected for each year level.
Each student will be provided top training throughout his or her secondary education pathway. This will look like the students participating in academics at Coburg High School from 8 am to 1 pm each day (offerings include English, Science/Health and Mathematics) and then studying classical dance from 2 to 7 pm at Melbourne City Ballet Centre.
Students in years 11 and 12 would slowly complete a Diploma in Elite Performance to ensure their academic work is not interrupted.
Auditions will be held on three Saturdays later this year: August 20, September 24 and October 29. There will be an Open Day on Saturday, June 18 from 10 am to 2 pm for those interested in learning more.
