Masters Dance Expo coming to Melbourne
Masters of Choreography is launching the first Masters Dance Expo – Australia this October! Bound for Melbourne, the expo will be a day for every dancer, whether professional, pre-professional or a student dancer purely for the love of dance.
Industry professionals and businesses will come together under one roof on Saturday, October 14 to celebrate dance and to share more information about their individual organisations. Attendees will learn more about dance workshops, dance seminars, dance wear, dance accessories, local dance schools and studios, dance competitions, dance shows and much more.
Dancers can take workshops from professionals like Sue-Ellen Shook (technique), Dana Jolly (jazz/musical theatre), David McLean (hip-hop), Loredo Malcolm (contemporary), Kelly Aykers (jazz), Tim Barnes (contemporary), Gerard Pigg (commercial) and Yasim Coronado (afro/dancehall fusion). In addition, international artist CJ Salvador will teach street dance, international artist Rob Rich will teach hip-hop and the Rich Fam Project will present a rehearsal/performance.
Dancers will actually be able to compete the day of too! A total of $30,000 is up for grabs! There will be five championships based on specific styles (lyrical/contemporary with $5,000 grand prize, jazz/commercial with $5,000 grand prize, street dance with $10,000 grand prize, breaking with $6,000 grand prize and genre choreographer bonus with $1,000 grand prize.
The exciting Masters Jam will allow dancers to compete to win $6,000 in prize money. The first place winner will take all, while the second and third place winners will receive other prizes. The judges will be Pepito from 7$ and Arch & A1 from Wicked Force. There will be no preliminary rounds, just straight battles and cyphers in a 64-crew tournament format. All entrants must register beforehand as there will be no registrations allowed on the day of the jam. The deadline to register for the jam is Friday, September 22!
