Everybody Dance Now Axed
Channel 10’s new, much anticipated dance show Everybody Dance Now has been axed after only a few episodes.
Hosted by Sarah Murdoch, Everybody Dance Now was open to all styles of dancers, soloists and groups, with two teams pitted against each other. The teams were mentored by Jason Derulo and Kelly Rowland, who are known much more for their singing than dancing.
The choice of mentors seemed a strange one to our dance devout readers, with one posting on Facebook “Why is it Kelly & Jason? I don’t get that at all!”
Following initial poor ratings Ten cut the show from three nights a week to one, but has now decided to axe the show.
“As part of the renewal of Network Ten’s creative content, we are trying new formats and creating more programming options. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the Everybody Dance Now format right,” said Network Ten chief executive James Warburto, as reported by Ninemsn. “Kelly, Jason and Sarah are fantastic presenters. Their professionalism and commitment to Everybody Dance Now was remarkable, and the many talented dancers on the show were amazing.”
Dance Informa’s Facebook fans seemed impressed with the talent on the show, but not the format, backing up Warburto’s statements.
We can’t help thinking that maybe Ten should have stuck with So You Think You Can Dance which was popular in Australia and is now into its ninth season in the US.
