Dance highlights at White Night Melbourne
White Night Melbourne, an event that transforms the city through installation, lighting, exhibitions, performances, film and music, returns Saturday, February 18 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
The creative theme for this year’s event was inspired by the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry quote: “Night, the beloved. Night, when words fade and things come alive. When the destructive analysis of day is gone, and all that is truly important becomes whole and sound again.” This creative theme is underpinned by the four creative pillars: Inclusion, Accessibility, Engagement and Innovation.
Some programs that dance fans can particularly look forward to are The Red Detachment of Women performance by The National Ballet of China, Australian Dance Theatre’s Proximity installation, the social Swing City dance marathon, the Shadow Dancer installation by Wood & Grieve Engineers, the new collaboration of One Beautiful Thing by Circa and Indian mallakhamb artists, the Lehenda Ukrainian Dance Company in two Hopaky, Natya Bollywood in various Indian dances, Hong De Lion and Dragon Dance Association in performance, West African dance and drums in Firefly, and routines from Cirque du Soleil’s KOOZA.
