St Petersburg Ballet announces Sydney debut

The Nutcracker by The St Petersburg Ballet TheatreThe internationally acclaimed St Petersburg Ballet Theatre will come to Sydney for the very first time this December. It will present two performances of the world’s most loved ballet, Tchaikovsky’s full-length classic Swan Lake, and three performances of his most enchanting and magical ballet, The Nutcracker.

 

First performed in St Petersburg in 1895, Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake is the classic love story between Prince Siegfried and the Swan Princess Odette, divided by the villainous sorcerer Rothbart. With its spectacular and dramatic ballroom scene, sublime music and deeply moving story, Swan Lake is a ballet that has enthralled audiences for generations. 

 

An adored Christmas tradition around the world, The Nutcracker is testament to Tchaikovsky’s enduring music and the magical power of storytelling. This full-length production brings to life the magical tale of young Clara and her Nutcracker Prince and their fantastical adventures into a world where dreams come to life.

 

Sold out in Paris, London, Singapore and Melbourne, the St Petersburg Ballet Theatre is renowned globally not just for its beautiful Vaganova-trained dancers but also for its grand full-length productions.

 

The strictly limited season of these ballets with sumptuous sets, glorious costumes and a company of 60 onstage opens at the Sydney Lyric Theatre on Wednesday, December 21. This season is part of an international tour that includes performances in Singapore, Macau, Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington, Adelaide and Melbourne.
