Lion Heart Dance Company to unveil its latest offering

Lion Heart Dance Company is preparing to unveil its latest offering, Clash, at Chapel off Chapel from Sep 6 - 8th, 2019. Established in 2015, the company has produced a number shows in Melbourne, including Table of Eight, Fabricated, The Scarlet Trace and ENVISION as well as the innovative Inhabit Dance Festival under the direction of Benjamin Curé. The company has grown during that time and now boasts a cast of 12 of Melbourne’s finest dancers - and, for the first time in the company’s history, company director Benjamin Curé will be taking to the stage in one of his own works.

Melbourne City Ballet shuts down

It’s a sad time for the dancers and staff of Melbourne city Ballet. On June 27th the company’s dancers were informed by artistic director Michael Pappalardo that the company would not be able to continue. As a result dancers have lost their jobs and students are looking for new schools. The company had a full schedule, with six to eight different shows a year and interstate and overseas travel.

Shrek and Princess Fiona have been found

Ben Mingay and Lucy Durack will play the lead roles of Shrek and Princess Fiona in the lavish and fun multi-million dollar musical comedy SHREK The Musical, Australia’s leading theatre producer John Frost announced. It was also announced that Australian musical royalty Marcia Hines would play the role of the Dragon in a special guest appearance for the Sydney season. The Broadway smash hit SHREK The Musical will open at the Sydney Lyric Theatre, The Star in early January 2020, followed by seasons at Her Majesty’s Theatre, Melbourne from February and at the Lyric Theatre, Brisbane following.

The 2019 Helpmann Awards Act II held on July 15th was a star studded black-tie gala event hosted by the fabulous dynamic duo of comedian, writer and actor, Susie Youssef, and Artistic Director of State Theatre SA, Mitchell Butel at Arts Centre Melbourne. Saluting artistic excellence and achievement on Australian stages over the past year, twenty three (23) prestigious Helpmann Awards were presented in the categories of comedy, cabaret, contemporary music, musicals, opera, classical music, theatre and ballet, dance and physical theatre.

The 2019 Helmann Awards are here

Live Performance Australia (LPA) have announced a very special addition to the 2019 Helpmann Awards at Arts Centre Melbourne. Along with previously announced live entertainment for the 2019 Helpmann Awards, a special performance will be beamed direct from The Princess Theatre for the delight of audiences, on Monday 15th July. In a world first, the cast of Harry Potter And The Cursed Child will perform an exclusive montage live from the play’s Australian home, Melbourne’s Princess Theatre.

Keir Choreographic Award increases to $50 000

This biennial Australian choreographic award was launched in 2014, it was formed through a partnership between Dancehouse, Melbourne; Carriageworks, Sydney and the Keir Foundation. The Keir Foundation, Carriageworks and Dancehouse have announced that the cash prize for the 2020 Keir Choreographic Award has increased to $50,000. Entries for the biennial competition are open until July 14, 2019.
