WXYZ Studios officially open in Victoria

The official opening of WXYZ Studios earlier this month heralds a new era for Lucy Guerin Inc (LGI) and creates a valuable resource for contemporary dance communities. 

Conveniently located in North Melbourne and with two studios purpose-designed for dance, WXYZ Studios will be a unique hub for experimental, contemporary dance in Melbourne and beyond. The space also features a co-working space for independent artists, a kitchen and full changing facilities including showers. 

Following the official opening by Rupert Myer on November 1, the studios are bustling with LGI’s artist-centred activities that include classes, workshops, residencies for independent artists and secondments, as well as the creation and rehearsal of existing and new work by LGI.

LGI Artistic Director Lucy Guerin said, “This is a huge moment for Lucy Guerin Inc and we are thrilled to welcome the dance community of Melbourne into our new home. It’s a dream come true and I look forward to the creative projects that will be possible in this inspiring space.” 

WXYZ Studios has been made possible by Dr. Terry Wu, a Melbourne-based arts lover, arts advocate and plastic surgeon, who acquired the warehouse space in late 2016 before seeking a performance-making company who could best utilise the space with a long-term, affordable lease.
