Australian tap dance teacher and performer Bill Simpson has announced his latest project and labour of love – Just Tap, a three-part video series teaching tap dance to beginners.

Simpson, a Brisbane resident, first started tapping at age 16. His passion and love for the dance form led him to found Red Hot Rhythm, now a leading presence in the Australian tap dance community as it edges closer to its 10th anniversary next year. Over the course of his career, Simpson’s taught thousands of people of all ages learn to tap. With all this experience, he decided a little over a year ago to create a “high-quality instructional video course specifically for adults wishing to learn tap dance for the first time.”

Simpson said, “Many people find their first dance classes overwhelming and intimidating, sometimes eliminating their excitement and motivation to learn, sadly often resulting in them giving up. Over the 13 years I’ve been teaching tap, I’ve noticed that fewer and fewer options are available for adults to learn and understand the crucial fundamentals of this amazing art form. I’m thrilled to say that after hundreds of hours spent writing, filming, editing, carefully crafting and testing the course, [Just Tap] is finally ready to make it’s way out into the world.”

The three-part video series is not a syllabus though, as Simpson clarifies. “It’s fundamental tap dance technique broken down in a way that is easy to understand, designed specifically to get people off to a flying start on their tap dance journey, and to leave them inspired and motivated to continue.”

“I’m very proud of the course, and am happy to say it has already received overwhelmingly positive feedback from a test audience of adults between 18 and 58,” Simpson said.
