‘WAAPA In The Park’ returns this Saturday
The City of Stirling and WAAPA invite the public to enjoy an evening of exciting musical talent at WAAPA In The Park this Saturday, March 19 at 7 pm in Mt Lawley’s Ron Stone Park – just opposite the Academy. This is the 9th WAAPA In The Park concert and this year the Academy celebrates the 25th Anniversary of Edith Cowan University as WAAPA ups the ante with the production of this annual event.
WAAPA will once again showcase its talented students and staff to the wider community and appreciates the support of the City of Stirling in making this happen.
The City of Stirling Mayor Giovanni Italiano JP said he welcomes WAAPA to Ron Stone Park for their annual outdoor performance. “This is the 9th year the City and WAAPA have joined forces to bring ‘WAAPA in the Park’ to the community. We are very proud to be associated with this event and it has developed quite a following over the years. My advice to those intending to head along this year is to get there early and bring the family.”
The 18-piece WAAPA Big Band will bop its way through a winning selection of jazz hits by Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday and many more. Some of Australia’s finest young jazz artists will pay tribute to this incredibly rich musical genre.
WAAPA In The Park will also feature a stunning live performance by WAAPA’s Contemporary Music students, who will celebrate the songs of musical luminaries Adele, Etta James, Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson and heaps more.
WAAPA Production and Arts Management students will overlook the stage management, lighting, sound and front-of-house activities – making this an all-round WAAPA affair!
So bring your picnic rug, hamper, family and friends and join WAAPA for a fabulous free evening of wonderful music from the stars of tomorrow. For further information, visit www.stirling.wa.gov.au.
