Train in the Big Apple at Steps on Broadway
The Steps on Broadway dance studio in New York City is the perfect place for Australian and New Zealand dancers to experience the Big Apple in all its glory. Founded in 1979 by Carol Paumgarten, the organisation is an international center for dance offering instruction and community to aspiring performers.
For those looking to break into Broadway or the New York dance scene (or both!), Steps presents numerous professional training programs. These include the International Independent Study Program (IISP), the Steps Conservatory Program, the Steps’ Steele Pilates Teacher Certification Program and Summer Study NYC, for those looking to just study for a few months.
All dancers must be 18 years old or older to participate in these programs. For IISP, students may enroll for three, six or 12 months with semesters beginning on the first Monday of every month. Completed applications must be received at least two months prior to enrollment date. The Steps Conservatory and Summer Study programs are by audition only. The Pilates Teacher Certification Program requires a dance component.
For more information, check www.stepsnyc.com for all application and audition deadlines.
If accepted, dancers can train with faculty like Kim Abel, Nancy Bielski, Mary Carpenter, Edward Ellison, Fabrice Herrault, Elena Kunikova, Kathryn Sullivan, Jennifer Archibald, Suzi Taylor, Derek Mitchell, Milton Myers, Caitlin Gray, Derick Grant, Al Blackstone and Dana Moore.
