Tracks Dance’s Choreolab 2026: Ignite Your Choreographic Spark
Tracks Dance’s Choreolab offers an exceptional and vibrant setting to dive deep into the realms of choreography, collaboration, and dance-making. Over a span of 10 weeks, participants will embark on a journey to discover and hone their choreographic talents, all within a supportive and relaxed group atmosphere. The experience culminates in the creation of captivating short movement works, guided by the Tracks Artistic Leadership Team.
This dynamic program is co-led by Jenelle Saunders and David McMicken, who are joined by guest facilitators throughout the course; James Mangohig, who brings his musical production expertise, Alyson Evans, who enriches the experience with insights from theatre and characterisation, and Rachael Wallis, who infuses the program with perspectives from First Nations and contemporary practices.
Choreolab kicks off with an immersive one-day intensive on January 31st from 10am to 4pm, plunging participants into a playful atmosphere that sparks choreographic creativity. This program is tailored for those who possess some level of experience in dance or movement—regardless of style—or for individuals engaged in current arts practices, all united by a shared curiosity about the art of choreography and the theatre and music elements that enhance it.
From February 2 to March 26, 2026, dive deeper with engaging sessions every Monday and Thursday at Tracks Dance Studio, running from 5:30pm to 8pm. These hands-on workshops emphasize experimentation, peer feedback, and skill-building in a relaxed yet inspiring vibe. At the conclusion of the course, there is a public showing, two shows on March 28th at 2pm and 4pm. Successful applicants will have the availability to commit to both the intensive, the showings, and as much of the course as possible.
The course began in 2009, and has seen 117 participants to date. People come from diverse age, style and cultural backgrounds, including various dance styles, visual arts, circus, mask, physical theatre, theatre, playwriting, music, teachers, and dance therapy. Many have done the course more than once.
