Tracks Dance Company announces new Company Director

Tracks Dance Company is delighted to announce the appointment of Alana James as its newest Company Director, bringing a wealth of strategic leadership, community sector expertise, and a deep personal connection to dance and the arts.

With more than a decade of experience in the not-for-profit sector, Alana is a strategic and compassionate leader known for her ability to drive meaningful impact. She relocated to the Northern Territory almost eight years ago on what was intended to be a short-term contract. Like many before her, she fell in love with Darwin and made it her permanent home.

At Y Northern Territory, Alana has held several key positions, including Executive Manager of Youth and Community Services, People and Culture Manager, and most recently, leader of the Marketing and Communications portfolio. Her broad experience spans program delivery, organisational culture, and strategic communication.

Alana holds a double Bachelor degree in International Relations and Journalism and is a graduate of the prestigious South Australian Governor’s Leadership Foundation program. She is a passionate believer in the power of storytelling and communication – both verbal and non-verbal.

A lifelong dancer, Alana has performed in Darwin as a burlesque artist and emcee. She was also a valued participant in the 2026 Tracks ChoreoLab cohort, further strengthening her ties to the organisation.

Alana thrives at the intersection of creativity and structure, where well-designed systems enable passionate people to do their best work. Outside of her professional life, she enjoys karaoke sessions, sewing, arts and crafts, and spending time in nature.

Tracks Dance Company extends a warm welcome to Alana James and looks forward to the energy, insight, and creativity she will bring to the team.
