Thomas Currrie’s Basically Nocturnal Comes to Gasworks Theatre

Thomas Currie’s Basically Nocturnal is a punchy night of witty stories and songs, old and new. Basically Nocturnal premiered as part of the 2021 Melbourne Cabaret Festival at Chapel Off Chapel. Featuring all new versions of songs from Billy Joel, Barry Manilow, Peter Allan and more, let Currie and his band of synthesisers, drums and electric cello transport you to wherever your imagination leads you.

Thomas Currie is an actor, singer and producer who has been described as “a natural story teller… (with) star quality to spare” (Theatre People) with a “remarkable, beautiful baritone (voice)” (Melbourne Observer).

Thomas is the producer and musical director/arranger of Committed Content Confused, which opened at the Wynnum Fringe Festival in November 2020. He is also the music director/arranger and a performer for Uplift, as series of concerts based in the UK. Thomas has been praised for his “goosebump inducing harmonies” that “reached musical near-perfection” (Nothing Ever Happens in Brisbane).

Thomas is a graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University.  Whilst at the Conservatorium, Thomas appeared in London Road, Elegies: A Song Cycle, The Drowsy Chaperone, Les Miserables and That’s Show Business (Queensland Pops Orchestra).

Thomas performs for corporate events, including The 2020 Toyota AFL Grand Final, 2019 Police Academy Carols by Candlelight and is a regular speaker for the Probus Association of Australia. Thomas is a regular guest host on Joy 94.9 FM radio and has also appeared Casey Radio 97.7 and 3AW Melbourne and other media platforms.

In 2018, he performed in and produced two sold out seasons of ‘The Curtain Rises’. In 2020, Thomas was part of the workshop cast of ‘Gold: A New Musical’, a project produced by the Green Room Award winning ‘Hope: A New Works Development Initiative’ and returned in 2021 to be a part of the workshop casts of ‘Scarlett’ and ‘Aaliyah’.

Thomas is also an Ambassador of the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation.

“Currie isn’t afraid to inject a little bit of sass and shamelessly flash his beaming smile along the way” said Lilithia Reviews, 2021

Join Thomas for a night of entertainment filled with laughter, music and crazy thoughts from deep in the night.

Basically Nocturnal will appear at the Gasworks Theatre for one night only, on May 7, at 7pm. Tickets begin at $29 and can be purchased at thomascurrie.com.au
