Theatrix, an Australian streaming service is ready to shake up the Arts and Music Industry
A new streaming platform dedicated to bringing some of the world’s best-performing arts spectacles to screens and devices across the globe has announced the launch of its capital raise on equity crowdfunding site Swarmer. South Australian entrepreneur and artist Jamie Harding has spent three years building Theatrix to bring the magic of live performances to the comfort of your living room.
“I discovered many years back, that the arts needed to look at new alternative models, other than relying on government support, following a number of major national funding cuts. I knew that there was a gap that needed to be filled and that true innovation was needed in the sector,” Mr Harding said.
Mr Harding entered Theatrix into an incubator program (Venture Dorm) beating 90 other Australian start-ups to win the top prize worth $47,840.
But the journey didn’t stop there. In the same year, Mr Harding also secured a place in the AusTrade Landing Pads which saw him travel for 6 months, to some of the world’s largest tech hubs including in London, Berlin, New York and Tel Aviv, Israel.
Mr Harding said it has not been easy to get the company off the ground, with the COVID-19 pandemic impacting the rollout.
“We were slowly building this company and pulling together a team of international industry veterans and I was in New York when the virus hit instantly,” he recalled.
“I was working in an office on Broadway when the virus struck and overnight everything shut down, Times Square was a ghost town. I was on one of the first mercy flights back, and since landing back in South Australia, have not looked back.”
Theatrix will support the arts and music sectors in a strong way during a challenging period for the industry and beyond. It features a unique entertainment model that showcases creative and artistic mediums such as theatre, comedy, dance, film and music events.
Theatrix will also bring a larger focus on content from world-leading locations to people’s home at a cost-effective rate, creating a more accessible way for theatre fans, past and present, to experience the magic of the stage. They have partnered with industry leaders and some of the world’s biggest artists and content studios and provide unmatched 4K streaming in its niche.
Theatrix will open up additional revenue streams for content creators both locally and internationally through providing audiences with a means to view various features that are not able to be seen by audiences in a live, experiential format. Through their offering, Theatrix will support the long-term sustainability of the arts and creative industries, providing a major solution to the recent losses in industry revenue, audience participation and viewership.
“Theatrix exists to bring the incredible gift of live performance to online audiences across the world, whilst bringing true innovation to our industry. We’re thrilled to be doing that from South Australia!” Harding shared.
