The Smash-hit Broadway Musical Once Returns to Australia

Darlinghurst Theatre Company is bringing back the Tony Award-winning musical Once from 28 May-12 June in Perth at Black Swan Stage Theatre Company and 24 June-31 July in Sydney at Darlinghurst Theatre Company. This achingly beautiful smash-hit musical strikes an unforgettable chord. Darlinghurst Theatre Company’s breathtaking production of Once returns to make you fall in love all over again!

Guy meets Girl in this tender love story about a struggling Irish musician on the verge of giving up, and a piano-playing Czech immigrant who reminds him how to dream. Featuring an outstanding ensemble of performers playing their instruments live on stage, Once reminds us of the power of music to connect us all.

Based on the movie of the same name by John Carney, Once features a book by Enda Walsh and music & lyrics by Glen Hansard & Markéta Irglová. It’s the only Broadway show with music that won an Academy Award®, Grammy Award®, Olivier Award and Tony Award® (including Best Musical).

The NSW premiere of Once originally opened at Darlinghurst Theatre Company in 2019 to a sold-out season. Once made its highly anticipated return in 2021, but the season was cut short due to COVID lockdowns. This June, Once is back to set hearts racing again! Once is directed by Richard Carroll (Calamity Jane) with musical direction by Victoria Falconer (Lizzie the Musical), and movement direction by Amy Campbell (A Chorus Line). 

With songs from the critically-acclaimed film, including the Oscar-winning song ‘Falling Slowly’, this spellbinding score will have you holding your breath from beginning to end.
