The Pavilion and Chachy Peñalver Company Presents Circe’s Chords
Prepare to be captivated by Circe’s Chords, a mesmerising fusion of flamenco, Latin American rhythms, and world music, presented by The Pavilion and Chachy Peñalver Company. This evocative showcase will take centre stage at The Pavilion Performing Arts Centre Sutherland for one night only on Saturday 29 March, 2025.
Led by renowned Venezuelan dancer, choreographer, and director Chachy Peñalver, the performance draws inspiration from the Greek mythical figure Circe to explore feminine energy and the duality of human nature through flamenco’s raw emotion and dynamic story-telling. With powerful movements and intricate rhythms, the production sparks an intimate dialogue with the audience, drawing them into its exploration of contrasts and complexities.
Peñalver describes her vision for Circe’s Chords: “Flamenco is not just a dance form; it’s a raw, emotional journey. Circe’s Chords invites audiences to reflect on the ancient yet timeless power of creativity and emotion embodied in the art of flamenco.”
The Chachy Peñalver Dance Company has earned acclaim for its innovative approach to flamenco, blending traditional forms with contemporary and interdisciplinary elements. Known for creating deeply evocative performances that delve into the divine and earthly aspects of human nature, the company’s work has been praised for its emotional intensity and stunning visual storytelling.
With an extraordinary cast of flamenco dancers—Rachael Melky, Xara Zaineddine, and Misi Cervonaro—and the acclaimed Arrebato Ensemble, Circe’s Chords weaves together powerful narratives and spellbinding dance and music. Combining intricate percussive footwork, emotionally charged movements, and mythological storytelling, the performance promises an unforgettable journey into the depths of human passion and ancient legend.
“The passion, energy, and connection Chachy and her dancers bring to the stage is extraordinary,” says Sean Moloney, The Pavilion’s Programming Coordinator. “Paired with the incredible musicality of their musicians, their performances are always captivating. I’m thrilled to see their artistry take full advantage of The Pavilion’s large-scale setting, promising audiences an unforgettable evening.”
