The Mill Announces New Partnership with Brand SA

An exciting new partnership between The Mill and Brand SA promises to elevate the importance of South Australia’s creative industries, makers, artists and small businesses to our thriving state.

The state brand is throwing its support behind over 70 makers and small businesses residing at The Mill; creating valuable opportunities to showcase their work and reach new audiences, fostering meaningful relationships within the state’s creative sector, while keeping studios affordable for South Australian creatives.

It’s the first time The Mill has introduced an official Studios Partner, and represents the beginning of a strong and positive relationship.

The partnership, a first of its kind for Brand SA, includes a 6-week pop-up ‘Makers Market’ at The Mill selling works by studio artists, a Brand SA Bar exclusively stocked with South Australian beverages supporting local craft beer and distilling industries, and events to connect creatives with government.

The Mill and Brand SA will also highlight this collaborative partnership with a unique creative project, showcasing artists from among The Mill’s diverse studio community.

Brand SA prides itself on protecting and strengthening the reputation of South Australia’s brand. This new partnership aims to further solidify that commitment, showcasing the small businesses, artists and makers that underpin our state’s creative industries sector.

“This partnership will further enhance South Australia’s appeal to consumers who passionately support small, local businesses, and actively seek new experiences,” says South Australian Trade and Investment Minister Joe Szakacs.

“Supporting The Mill’s studios not only supports a growing cultural institution in our great state, but also provides an important opportunity to consider how we promote and support local creative businesses, makers and artists. Through this partnership, we’re both showcasing South Australia’s incredible creative sector and engaging more deeply with the people that make this sector so vibrant.”

“The Malinauskas Government is proud to back this partnership between Brand SA and The Mill. By investing in our creative industries, we’re creating opportunities for over 70 local makers and small businesses to thrive. This is about strengthening South Australia’s economy and cultural identity,” says Minister for Arts Andrea Michaels.

Platforming South Australian artists, makers and businesses comes naturally to The Mill, who have been supporting the creative sector since 2013.

“This exciting new partnership acknowledges the arts and local artists are key to the creative industries in South Australia. Artists and the work they create, enrich our social and cultural fabric. Artists breathe life and insight into the world and their contributions are needed now more than ever,” says The Mill CEO/Artistic Director Katrina Lazaroff.

“This partnership assists The Mill to value and promote their work to the wider public, and will ultimately support their careers to become more sustainable. We hope to continue and grow this partnership into the future and build The Mill into a thriving marketplace that enables artists to present, exchange, and sell their work.”

This new partnership not only adds to the sustainability of the not-for-profit organisation, The Mill General Manager Tim Watts says it also positively adds to The Mill’s ethos of platforming South Australian made products.

“South Australia celebrates homegrown creativity better than anywhere. But operating a creative business has its challenges,” he says.

“This partnership with Brand SA means The Mill can continue offering subsidised workspaces for more than 70 small creative businesses, while also increasing their market visibility and viability. It’s a win for local makers, and for The Mill’s overall sustainability.”
