The Australian Ballet and Telstra Search for Australia's Next Emerging Choreographer

The Australian Ballet and Telstra Search for Australia’s Next Emerging Choreographer

New choreography is the lifeblood of The Australian Ballet. The Australian Ballet’s Principal Partner Telstra is helping to create a new pathway for emerging Australian choreographers to develop their skills and creative vision.

Telstra Emerging Choreographer (TEC) will give up to three aspiring choreographers the opportunity to create a dance film and the winner will be considered for our 2023 Bodytorque program and receive a cash prize of $10,000. TEC is open to all dance styles.

Applicants will be required to submit a short written and video submission (1-2 minutes) on what they would like to create using the theme “Identity” as their inspiration.

Up to three finalists will be selected by our judges David Hallberg, Artistic Director of The Australian Ballet, Stephanie Lake, Director of Stephanie Lake Company and Josh Wright, CEO & Artistic Director of Dancehouse.

The finalists will be commissioned to create their dance film (4-6 minutes), based on their application, each receiving $3,000 to create their work. The winner will be announced on The Australian Ballet’s social channels in October 2022.

All applicants must be 18 years or over and in Australia. Applications close Monday 11 July 2022 11:59pm. Additionally, a written submission of up to 250 words and 1-2 minute video submission outlining your concept which include examples of the movement you wish to create must be submitted as part of the initial application process.
