The Australian Ballet and NAB Take dance to primary schools

The Australian Ballet is joining forces with its In Schools Partner NAB to present its flagship education program to even more primary school students than ever before. The 2011 Out There – The Australian Ballet in schools program will be officially launched by Ms Heidi Victoria, Parliamentary Secretary Assisting the Premier with the Arts, this morning at St Kilda Primary School, Victoria.

Out There is enriching the education of Australian students by exposing them to dance, one of the
least taught subjects in Australian schools.

David McAllister, artistic director of The Australian Ballet, said it was important to give children the opportunity to experience dance. “Our vision for Out There is to give students who may not have danced before the chance to sample its many benefits, from increased awareness of their bodies, to general fitness and an outlet for creative expression,” he said.

“Our partnership with NAB has allowed us to extend the program to even more students across Australia in 2011, which means many children get this wonderful opportunity that they might not otherwise receive.”
