Sydney Eisteddfod’s Tanya Pearson Award

Sydney Eisteddfod announces Mrs. Tanya Pearson Artistry Award & Grand DéfiléSydney Eisteddfod recently established The Mrs. Tanya Pearson Artistry Award as part of its Ballet Scholarship Final in celebration of the “extraordinary contribution” of Mrs. Tanya Pearson OAM.

On Sunday, July 30, the Australian ballet community will unite at Sydney Opera House’s Concert Hall to celebrate not only the Final of the Sydney Eisteddfod Ballet Scholarship, but also the 80th birthday of one of Australia’s most distinguished ballet teachers – Tanya Pearson OAM.

An iconic and influential figure, Mrs. Pearson has been a dedicated ballet teacher for more than 50 years, training hundreds of students and seeing many go on to successful professional ballet careers throughout the world. Many have become teachers and choreographers too, and are continuing her legacy.

In honour of her significant contribution, the Mrs. Tanya Pearson Artistry Award was established this year. An independent jury will choose the recipient from the Sydney Eisteddfod Ballet Scholarship Finalists. 2017 will mark the inaugural award that will be presented to the Finalist who displays the “highest level of artistry and stagecraft in keeping with the teachings of Tanya Pearson.”

Each year the recipient will be bestowed an original bronze sculpture, male or female, by renowned artist Linda Klarfield, which has been specially designed and forged in honour of Mrs. Pearson.

To mark this life and career milestone, a Grand Défilé entitled “Salute to Mrs. P” has been choreographed by Queensland Ballet’s Paul Boyd, which will be performed by senior ballet students from schools across Australia united in celebration of an extraordinary contribution to the art form. The Grand Défilé will be performed at Sydney Opera House at the conclusion of the Scholarship Finals and during the judging.
