Sydney Eisteddfod’s 2024 Dance of Champions Winners
The final dance event of Sydney Eisteddfod 2024 is the aptly named Dance of Champions. Taking place on Sunday, it was a spectacular showcase of the best dance groups in the land, with 15 finalists delivering a variety of dance styles, with brilliant costumes, music and creativity.
Dance North Academy performed Hallelujah, choreographed by Amanda Whittaker and Isabella Thompson, and was named the 2024 Jury Vote Winner
The 2024 People’s Choice Winner was Ravenswood School for Girls who performed Phantom, choreographed by Emily Rich.
Adjudicator Danielle Evrat said: “What the adjudicators were looking for today was the full package – amazing technique, teamwork, engaging storytelling, high performance quality, and above all a group that hit us emotionally from our seats in Row P! There was so much incredible variety here today, stunning costumes all round, and the full range of dance styles. We had dancers on pointe, in bare feet, in character shoes, and in traditional dress. It was an absolute honour to watch you all.”
Sydney Eisteddfod CEO, Annette Brown, added: “We are all winners this afternoon! This event is all about collaboration – looking after each other and making sure we are all ready to dance. Where else in Australia would you see this many young people and not a mobile phone or screen in sight!”
The Dance of Champions, taking place for the 7th time, was held at The Concourse Concert Hall, Chatswood, on Sunday, September 8, in front of a big live audience. Adjudicators were dance professionals Danielle Evrat and Ryan Sheppard. The event was compered by Shaun Parker. The afternoon also included Guest Performances by Ev & Bow Youth Company, and Burns Bay Dance Studio’s Special Olympics.
