Studio Flamenco presents ‘Recuerdos’

Recuerdos at Adelaide Cabaret Fringe FestivalSouvenirs gathered from a journey through Andalucia remind us of long days filled with languid guitar and nights of percussive rhythm. Flamenco musicians and dancers conjure memories of the Rio Guadalquivir, from the region of Cadiz to the gypsy quarter of Triana.

Dancers and choreographers Emma Fernée, Yasmine Amber, Susi Masi and rising young Australian flamenco talent Daniel Lyas with their company of dancers join forces with a band of accomplished musicians for a program of musical virtuosity and fiery dance on June 15 and 16!

Trained in both Spain and Australia, the combined performance credentials of these artists spans decades and includes appearances at Womadelaide, Adelaide International Guitar festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival and performances with Opera Australia.

“While flamenco is such an international art form now,” said Emma Fernée, one of the company’s directors, “we wanted to bring to this show that inexplicable magic feeling of being in Andalucia, a place that has a special place in all of our hearts.”

Dancer, writer and vocalist Yasmine Amber added, “We use our art form to create something new and exciting that expresses who we are, while remaining true to that nostalgic ambience, that unique essence, that ‘duende’ that drew us all to this unique art form of flamenco in the first place.”

Together with the passionate tones of singer Zoe Velez (Sydney), flamenco guitarists Aloysius Leeson and Marduk Gault and percussionists Peter Fernee and Adrian Van Nunen, this unique dance company will take audiences on a journey to the South of Spain.
