Stompin announces new Artistic Director
Stompin is thrilled to announce that Daisy Sanders will be stepping into the role of Artistic Director!
A multidisciplinary creator, performer, and teacher currently based in Boorloo (Perth), Daisy brings a wealth of experience in dance, youth engagement, and community-focused artistry. With over a decade of practice spanning Australia and internationally, she is deeply passionate about creating spaces that foster joy, connection, and creative vibrancy—values that sit at the heart of Stompin.
On her appointment as Artistic Director Daisy said: “I was drawn to undertake the leadership of Stompin because its legacy and importance is so apparent. I feel humbled to step in and direct a company that many people hold dear, and I will be privileged to first and foremost continue its strong culture of care and community. A huge part of my artistic practice to date has been intentionally cultivating spaces that are joyful, connected, honest and thus creatively vibrant. I wholeheartedly believe that the way we gather together and the quality of our relationships are the essential foundation for dance.
I’m also proud to bring my somatic choreographic approach, health / access experiences and multidisciplinary background. Transformative community engagement is not separate from the creation of high-quality artwork and artists hold a very powerful role in these times – to re-imagine what’s possible and generously contribute to social cohesion and positive change. The future lies in the hearts of young artists, so above all, I can’t wait to meet the Stompers (and their families), and discover what worlds we can imagine and build together.”
Daisy will be engaging remotely from February and arriving in Lutruwita/Tasmania in mid-March—ready to connect, create, and continue Stompin’s bold legacy.
In addition to a new Artistic Director, 2025 brings a number of exciting shifts for Stompin.
Their governing board underwent a revitalisation last year, welcoming new leadership and fresh perspectives. They were fortunate to appoint Dr Jane Woollard as Chair, whose expertise as a Senior Lecturer in Theatre and Performance, director, playwright, and dramaturg played a vital role in guiding the Artistic Director recruitment process.
Stompin also welcomed Joh Breen, Jon Addison, and Julie Sanders to the governing board. Their contributions have been instrumental in strengthening Stompin’s organisational transparency and governance, setting them up for a future that is both artistically ambitious and structurally robust.
As Stompin continues to grow, they are looking for passionate individuals to help bolster the work of their board through subcommittees. They will soon be opening Expressions of Interest for those keen to contribute their skills in areas like governance, financial management, strategic planning, and particularly fundraising.
