Seet Dance offering intensive soon

Holiday Dance IntensiveOn her return to Sydney from New York in 2009, Charemaine Seet founded Seet Dance in Surry Hills, NSW. Seet Dance is a contemporary dance school that Ausdance NSW once dubbed the “foremost place in Sydney where dance is taught as a contemporary art form”. Now the school is preparing to offer its 2019 Holiday Dance Intensive from Monday—Friday, January 14—18 at its Surry Hills studio.

The intensive is aimed at dancers aged 11 to 18, and will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. It features explorations of movement vocabulary, choreography, technique and history of contemporary and postmodern dance.

Internationally known choreographer and dancer Lee Serle will teach technique and create a work with the dancers. In addition to performing for the Trisha Brown Dance Company, he has choreographed pieces on Sydney Dance Company, Lyon Opera Ballet and Lucy Guerin Inc. For the showing of the piece, a live musician will join the dancers for a Cage-Cunningham style “happening”.

Jack Wardana, a famous specialist in popping, is also back again this year. He’ll teach elements of hip-hop and popping to students. He won the Original Gangsters 1-on-1 Popping Competition in Singapore and has represented Australia in hip-hop festivals and competitions in Korea and Taiwan. He’s known for his fusion style of popping and Indonesian dance.

According to Seet Dance, parent Georgie Brignell said this about last year’s holiday intensive: “My two kids took the Seet Dance holiday workshop. They had a wonderful time dancing all day but what they learned about dance history and theory lead to marvelous discussions around the dinner table.”
