SCYB and SYO present ‘Together Live’

Sydney Youth Orchestra collaborates with Sydney City Youth BalletSydney’s most talented young musicians and dancers embark on a landmark collaboration of classical and contemporary ballet and music this spring. Together Live is a special production being presented by the artists of the Sydney City Youth Ballet (SCYB) and the 60-piece Sydney Youth Orchestra (SYO) Philharmonic on Friday and Saturday, September 22 and 23 at The Concourse Theatre, Chatswood.

Audiences can witness the ballet and orchestral stars of tomorrow performing in perfect harmony under the direction of the SCYB Artistic Director Lucinda Dunn OAM with SYO Philharmonic conducted by Brian Buggy OAM.

Dunn said, “In this, the first collaboration between the Sydney City Youth Ballet and the Sydney Youth Orchestra, we are continuing the mission to bring together the stars of tomorrow with the stars of today in announcing that Queensland Ballet’s Joel Woellner and Mia Heathcote will perform The Nutcracker Grand Pas de Deux.

Together Live is a wonderful opportunity for audiences to witness quality musicians and dancers in a wonderful program at affordable prices, whilst supporting Australia’s talented youth. The program includes New Classical Ballet by Wim Broeckx, Les Corsaire Grand Pas de Deux with music by Adolphe Adams, Waltz of the Flowers – The Nutcracker by Tanya Pearson OAM and The Nutcracker Grand Pas de Deux.

The program will also include the Les Sylphides Pas de Deux and the world premiere of The Sky is Falling by Adam Blanch.

“Collecting my granddaughter from her adored ballet each week, prompted me to approach her school about a collaboration between their amazing young dancers and our amazing young musicians,” said Buggy. “Well, here we are, challenged both sides of the footlights: experiencing the variables of live performance, changing tempos, jeopardised grand jetés and phrases bent to fit unseen movement above the pit. What an opportunity for our young artists! What joy!”

Together Live will be presented at 7 p.m. on September 22, and at 2 and 7 p.m. on September 23. Tickets are about $50 for adults and half that for children, students, seniors or concessions. Book tickets now at www.premier.ticketek.com.au.
