Royal Academy of Dance Announces Conference 2024

The Royal Academy of Dance Australia (RAD) has announced that its fifth international conference will take place in Sydney in January 2024. The conference, ‘Dancing into the future; practices, insights & innovations’ will feature experts in dance education, research, and practice from around the world and explore the latest insights and developments in dance education and training.

The conference brings together a global community of dance professionals to share ideas and innovations on best practice in dance pedagogy, and learn from leading experts.

“We are thrilled that RAD Australia will host their 5th international conference in Sydney in January 2024,” said the RAD Chief Executive, Tim Arthur. “The conference provides a tremendous opportunity for dance professionals from around the world to collaborate, learn new skills, and share their knowledge and experience. We are excited to be bringing together the most innovative and influential members of the dance community for this important event.”

The conference aims to highlight a range of topics, including dance technique, creativity, artistic value, and physical and mental wellbeing, with a strong focus on cultural identity, diversity, and equity in dance education. It will feature keynote speakers, panel discussions, workshops, and performances. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with leading experts in dance education and research, and network with peers from around the world. It is expected to attract attendees from all over Australia and around the world.

“After a few years of digital dancing, we are excited to bring the dance community together again in person. The conference aims to provide rich learning and sharing experiences by exploring best practices, models, and methods in dance teaching. We encourage contributions that provide opportunities to explore innovative, contemporary approaches across all dance contexts, genres, and cultures.”

Speakers, presenters and panel members can submit their proposals at the conference’s official website https://au.royalacademyofdance.org/conference2024/ or contact RAD Australia’s team for more information. Contribution submissions are due by 30 June 2023.

The conference committee is inviting submissions for paper presentations 20 minutes in length and practical demonstrations between 45 and 60 minutes in duration. Proposals for panel and roundtable discussions of 60 minutes are also welcomed.

The 2024 programme committee includes: Dr Michelle Groves, Director of Education, Faculty of Education RAD (London); Dr Jeff Meiners, Adjunct, University of South Australia/Chair, daCi (Australia); and Shelley Yacopetti, Head of Department – Faculty of Education Australia, RAD (Australia).
