‘Rogue Chorus: A Scooter Ballet’ transforms Auckland’s Waterfront into a moving stage

Embracing the Auckland waterfront as its stage, Rogue Chorus is ballet – but not as you know it.

Choreographed by Jessie McCall alongside an exceptional cast of Tāmaki Makaurau dance practitioners, Rogue Chorus reimagines Movement of the Human’s Flamingo Scooter Ballet with a bold new twist.

This renegade work collides contemporary dance with urban architecture, transforming the waterfront of Tāmaki Makaurau into a living, moving theatre. Audiences can expect energy, tenderness, and moments of striking grace – all on wheels.

“It’s been a unique and exciting challenge to create choreography that responds to both the cityscape and to the fun and unruly possibilities of electric scooters”, says Choreographer Jessie McCall. “The work is co-created and performed by a truly talented team of Aotearoa dance artists. This is a perfect opportunity to come and hang out in some of Tāmaki Makaurau’s wonderful public spaces, and absorb some accessible, playful performance while you’re at it”

Following each performance, audiences are invited to take part in free e-scooter learning sessions supported by Flamingo. These sessions introduce the basics of riding an e-scooter in a supervised and welcoming environment, offering a chance for participants to experience movement through the city in a new way.

“Working with Jessie has given us a fun and unique opportunity to present scooter workshops and highlight scooter safety in an increasingly busy city centre.” says Anders Falstie-Jensen – Senior Placemaker, Auckland Urban Development Office.

This one-of-a-kind outdoor performance invites audiences to gather at the waterfront and witness the city in motion.
