Registrations are now open for Sharp Short Dance Festival 2022

Calling all young dancers and choreographers under 21! Sharp Short Dance Festival returns to the theatre and online bigger than ever. FORM’s annual youth dance festival expands this year featuring live works and dance films. All works are created by choreographers and dancers 21 years and under, celebrating young talent in Western Sydney and beyond. Sharp Short Dance Festival inspires young performers to strive for their own artistic excellence and encourages active youth participation in all genres and traditions of dance and media.

In Sharp Short Dance LIVE, entrants will perform over 3 heats where a panel of industry professionals will invite the best works to perform in the final.  Winning performances are eligible for awards such as Most Innovative Choreography, Outstanding Performer Junior and Senior and the Audience Choice Award. Finalists are also eligible for valuable industry secondment opportunities with leading dance companies.

For those submitting entries for Sharp Short Dance FILM, dance films will be presented on FORM’s website where audiences are invited to participate in voting for their favourite work. 3 finalist films will be chosen and eligible for the Best Film Award and Audience Choice Award presented at the livestreamed final. Finalists are also eligible for valuable industry secondment opportunities with leading dance companies.

Based in Parramatta, Western Sydney, Sharp Short Dance celebrates young talent in a supportive environment. The festival is open to choreographers and dancers locally and from across Australia. Regional NSW young artists are encouraged to apply, notably from the Central West region with Sharp Short partner Cowra Civic Centre hosting a regional heat.

Cost of entry is $25 per live entry and $20 per film entry. Registration closes 20 October 2022. The Film Heat will take place online Fri 11 – Sun 20 Nov, with voting Tues 15 – Thurs 17 Nov. The Regional Heat at Cowra Civic Centre will occur Sat 12 Nov at 7pm. Parramatta Heats will be at Riverside Theatres, Tues 15 – Thurs 17 Nov at 7.30pm, and the Final will be livestreamed from Riverside Theatres, Sat 19 Nov at 7.30pm.
