Register now for The Environment Project

The Environment Project 2016Community Groups from Western Sydney are encouraged to register their interest in being a part of Penrith City Council’s first-ever World Environment Day Program. The Environment Project is a community engagement initiative that uses dance to encourage Penrith City Council residents to reflect on the way they view and engage with the environment, recycling and waste management within their community.

The project will culminate in a community performance on World Environment Day—set for June 5, 2016—in the vicinity of Penrith City Council. The artistic presentation, created by locals for locals, will feature the components of live performance, workshops and visual exhibitions, engaging an audience of 300+ from the Penrith City Council community.

By being involved with this project, participants will learn about waste management strategies, whilst participating in fun dance, music and visual arts workshops over a period of 14-weeks. These workshops will run from February 2016 till June 2016, and could become key activities within the group’s calendar year. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from leading choreographers, composers and artists, with the added bonus of showcasing their skills at a large-scale public performance.

This public outreach project will empower community members to become agents of change. The initiative will provide positive explorations of the environment, recycling and waste management: encouraging participants to reflect on ways to improve their community. The project aims to galvanise individual actions into a collective power, generating a positive impact on the planet.

Aimed at Community Groups in Western Sydney, both process and presentation will be inter-generational, engaging approximately 100 Penrith City Council residence from aged care facilities, schools and youth groups (including those with and without a disability) and local small businesses.
