RAD Australia makes several announcements
The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) in Australia has recently made many major announcements. For one, the organisation will be hosting a special event this Sunday at the Edmund Rice Performing Arts Centre. It has also revealed plans to host an international conference on practices and innovations in dance teaching for the 21st century that coincides with the 2016 Genée International Ballet Competition in Sydney this December. Plus, it has made plans to host the Genée 2016 Dance Challenge and entries are now open.
Join Hands for the 2016 Genée
RAD Australia invites you to come along this Sunday, April 17 to Edmond Rice Performing Arts Centre in South Brisbane to be a part of creating a record of the largest group of people holding hands for the Genée International Ballet Competition.
Any age can participate and prizes will be awarded, including for the best hair, best dressed, youngest and oldest participant, and the most students from one school.
Attendees will get to meet Jake Harrison (past MKR runner up) and there will be special guest appearances by past Genée medalists such as Jane Devine (Gold Medallist in 1973), Karen Donovan (Bronze Medallist in 1979), Claudia Dean (Gold Medallist in 2009 and recipient of Audience Vote) and Makensie Henson (Bronze Medallist in 2015.)
Registration begins at 9:30 am, with the record attempt set for 10 am. All profits raised will go towards hosting the 2016 Genée. For further information, click here.
Call for Papers on Dance Teaching for Conference
Coinciding with the Genée in Sydney this December, RAD Australia will host “Dance Teaching for the 21st Century: Practice and Innovation”, an international conference on strategies and advances in dance teaching for the 21st century. The conference seeks to bring together dance educators, researchers, historians and scholars from across a variety of dance disciplines.
Dance professionals who have significant experience in the industry are invited to submit papers on dance teaching for consideration. If chosen, their paper will be allotted 20 minutes for presentation at the conference, set for December 10 and 11.
Interested presenters should submit an abstract of no more than 200 words accompanied by a biography and full contact details of the author to the programme committee via email by June 26. For more information, visit www.ausdancevic.org.au.
Entries Open for Genée 2016 Dance Challenge
Inspired by Australia hosting the main Genée competition this year, RAD Australia is holding a national Dance Challenge the night before the Genée final.
This multi-level, national competition offers young dancers the opportunity to express themselves, not just through performance but with the chance to choreograph their own solo or to work with their teacher on the choreography for an original piece.
The Genée 2016 Dance Challenge is an exciting platform for young dancers to take what they have learnt through RAD exams and their regular dance classes and showcase it in a theatrical setting. Find out more here or enter to compete here.
