Pepa Molina’s new work “Perceptions” will have its World Premiere on 20-22 July 2023

Western Sydney flamenco dancer Pepa Molina will premiere her new work Perceptions 20-22 July at Riverside Theatres’ Dance Bites.

Pepa started to dance at the age of 9 in Sydney, Australia, where she trains and performs with Antonio Vargas and Diana Reyes.

In 1993, Pepa moved to Spain to pursue a career in Flamenco dance, learning and performing with many greats. Pepa is a world-class artist and the most lauded professional Spanish Flamenco dance artist in Australia. Pepa has developed over decades an expansive and dedicated audience following, strong work, and is endorsed by not just the Spanish communities she works with but by the Spanish Consulate and other high-ranking officials as a leader in Flamenco dance in Australia.

“…vivacious ‘talking’ footwork, speedy travelling steps, dazzling turns and a cracking castanet item. Pepa is a powerful dancer skilled in punctuating her moves with the strong accents of flamenco,” said Jill Sykes – Sydney Morning Herald

Perceptions is a unique opportunity for lovers of music and dance to see some of Spain’s finest Flamenco artists on stage. Pepa will surround herself with internationally renowned performers from Spain – she will shy away from superstitions and cliches in Flamenco’s past and present – with a more a modern approach.

Performances of Perceptions will run at Riverside Theatres Parramatta 20-22 July. In addition to the shows, a Learn the Repertoire, See the Show workshop will be offered on 21 July at 10 am. The workshop will introduce students to the art of Flamenco and its cultural history, a wonderful blend of entertainment and education. Students will learn how Flamenco music, song and dance all relate to each other with demonstrations of the varied Flamenco instruments and techniques involved in Perceptions, such as castañuelas (castanets) & Flamenco dance (Baile).

Learn the Repertoire, See the Show offers dance students an opportunity to learn from the artists. After the workshop, students will see a matinee performance and participate in a post-show Q&A with the artistic team. This workshop is suitable for years 9-12 (Stages 5 & 6).

Tickets for Perceptions are $25 – $42. Click here to book and learn more.
