ORBIT Applications Now Open: Launching Independent Dance Works onto the National Stage
Applications are now open for ORBIT, a new touring program designed to launch independent dance works into the stratosphere.
ORBIT is an innovative collaboration between three powerhouse organisations: Australian Dance Theatre (ADT), Dancehouse, and Sydney Dance Company. This pioneering initiative, supported by Creative Australia, is dedicated to remounting and touring four exceptional independent dance works that deserve wider recognition and fresh audiences.
In late 2026 (19 October – 22 November), ORBIT will deliver fully supported, multi-state tours across three major cities, showcasing two curated programs of contemporary dance at the cutting edge of Australian choreographic practice. It’s an exhilarating opportunity to experience bold, innovative performances while giving breakthrough pieces, or signature works ready for rediscovery, a powerful second life on new stages.
This is the perfect launchpad for works that still have plenty to say. Whether your creation shone brightly but briefly in its original run or is primed for renewed discovery, ORBIT is designed to slingshot it nationwide, connecting artists with broader audiences and new artistic horizons.
Works must have premiered before March 2026 and be ready for remounting and fresh presentation to new crowds. This is a rare chance for independent choreographers and collectives to gain national exposure with professional support, including remounting and touring logistics.
Applicant information sessions are scheduled for 4 March and 18 March 2026. Expressions of Interest close 24 March 2026. Selected artists will be notified mid- to late May 2026.
