Morning Melodies Returns to Arts Centre Melbourne

Morning Melodies is Arts Centre Melbourne’s monthly, feel-good concert series in Hamer Hall. Having celebrated 37 successful years of sensational daytime entertainment, the Morning Melodies 2022 program is set to amaze audiences once again with a stellar line-up of music theatre, cabaret, opera, jazz and dance. Running from April to December 2022, this year’s Morning Melodies at Arts Centre Melbourne features nine fabulous shows.

Kicking off the series will be Two Hits and a Ms – the acclaimed song and tap dance trio starring Christopher Horsey, Bobby Fox and Nicole Melloy. Original cast member of Hot Shoe Shuffle and Tap Dogs, Christopher Horsey has sung and tap danced his way around the world from Broadway to The West End. In this new song and dance act, Horsey brings to life all the famous songs and tap dances from the stage and screen. The trio will dazzle with their masterful footwork and vocal prowess alongside a fabulous live band.

In May, The Australian Ballet presents En Pointe. The Australian Ballet School’s annual performance is now a tradition amongst Morning Melodies audiences, a treat to look forward to each year. In a showcase of works by talented students, this performance celebrates the art of ballet from the sophisticated to the sublime. Audiences will be thrilled by a wonderful repertoire filled with the energy, dedication and refined skills of the School’s young dancers.

Enjoy a fresh take on the typical Australian story in July with Zoy Frangos. The son of a Greek migrant father and Indigenous-Australian mother, Zoy is in many ways a ‘typical’ Australian. This show tells Zoy’s own personal and musical story. From his childhood in Ballarat, Zoy has since found his place on the stage. Backed by a powerhouse band and eight singers, Zoy tells his story with honesty and humour. Be blown away by his variations on classic songs like ‘Bring Him Home’, ‘Jailhouse Rock’ and the theme from The Godfather.

Victorian College of the Arts’ Musical Theater students take the stage in August as they invite audiences to celebrate the best of Broadway’s songbook. From the magic of ‘The Golden Age’ to the excitement of Broadway’s most recent blockbusters, students of the VCA will explore the great love songs, exciting choruses and powerful ballads that have defined this genre for over a hundred years. This highly anticipated program, created exclusively for Morning Melodies, is a wonderful chance to see a 40-strong ensemble of future stars.

In October, Orchestra Victoria presents a stunning, specially curated program as part of Morning Melodies 2022. Counting some of Australia’s premier classical arts companies among their performance partners, Orchestra Victoria are no strangers to Arts Centre Melbourne’s stages. As opera and ballet specialists, they regularly accompany The Australian Ballet, Opera Australia and Victorian Opera. Orchestra Victoria is dynamic and agile, working with companies from across Australia and the world, delivering more than 200 performances each year.

Rounding out the 2022 season, the ever-popular Christmas Melodies returns again to herald the arrival of the festive season. Sing along to a collection of classics and new favourites with your special host and a range of well-known artists. Bring the whole family or a group of friends and enjoy some Christmas themed entertainment with a big band, choir and special guest vocalists to be announced.
