Melbourne Conservatorium of Music Proudly Presents a Katy Abbott Celebration Concert
Join the Conservatorium’s New Music Studio as they present a special 50th birthday concert celebrating the music of Australian composer Katy Abbott on 28 April at 7:30 pm in The Ian Potter Southbank Centre.
Often musing on the concepts of connection, place, and humour, Dr Abbott’s compositions are performed, published, and recorded around the world. ‘In my music,’ she says, ‘I am trying to capture the little things that make us human. I seek to unpack the human side of life; humour, foibles, quirky things we do and say, beauty, grief, and friendship.’
Katy is Acting Head of Composition and Senior Lecturer in Composition at Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, University of Melbourne and The Artists’ Mentor in the Industry across artforms. The performers this evening, Ensemble Three, are also Conservatorium staff.
Ken Murray will be on guitar, Joel Brennan will be on trumpet, and Don Immel will be on trombone.
The Melbourne Conservatorium of Music’s New Music Studio presents a series of performances by talented composition staff and students that are sure to delight, enthrall and captivate.
Tickets are free for the Katy Abbott Celebration Concert, but registration in advance is required to attend. Visit here to register.
